However, Mirzapur has done tremendous justice to its script and has created a different niche for itself.

I watched Sacred Games just a week before Mirzapur and after reading the bad reviews of Mirzapur, I decided not to watch it.

One of my close friends – Shashi told me to forget the reviews and watch the first episode.

I would like to quote him here: “It is far better than the number of stars given by critics.”

He was absolutely right. Sacred Games has used words from ancient Indian history (or mythology, whichever you wish to use) to tell the story.

The way he has portrayed his obsession with body-building, his stupidity, his confidence and selfish bias; it will stun the audience.

After watching a few episodes, I started to wonder if a person can really be so crazy and so blinded in narcissism.

All he cares about is how to live in the present moment of time, nothing else.

Yuva is a rebel student at an engineering college in Mangalore. 

He is the leader to all the hostelites and stands against the local boys bullying. 

This leads to a massive clash, ending with Yuva and the local students getting suspended. 

Yuva also has a strained relationship with his father who has disowned him. 

As the clash with the localites intensifies,

it is revealed that Yuva is also a budding wrestler who has been banned for 2 years over fake corruption. 

Things get serious when he visits his home in Bengaluru, only to find his father missing and family tormented.

while he too gets a second chance at wrestling, forms the rest of the story.

Santhosh Ananddram has written an extremely dull story for the big launch of Yuva Rajkumar. 

The screenplay jumps from one subplot to another without any smooth flow. 

It starts off in Mangalore and the college story doesn’t really go anywhere with one fight scene leading to another with 2 songs inserted. 

The story moves to Bengaluru without giving any closure to the college issue and enters into a melodrama stage for most part of the second half.

It doesn’t help that Yuva has exactly one expression throughout and doesn’t impress at all with his dialogue delivery. 

Only plus for him is the fight scenes whereas he dances well but gets a forgettable music album for his debut. 

It was painful to listen to his famous Appu dialogue from Jackie. 

In the end there is an Appu tribute song too, otherwise Yuva is an extremely forgettable film which only tests the patience of its viewers. 

Yuva Rajkumar deserved a better launch vehicle and needs to be more selective with his script while working on his acting skills, if he intends to have a longer career.

The first few episodes of the new season of Panchayat are so dull that

I had to leave my show midway and watch the more entertaining Malaika Legal Hai,

which alternates between the self-reflectiveness of old comedies and the sharp insights of new comedies.

Ever since Panchayat first delighted us four years ago, it has lost its momentum

and the third season, released this week, has made one thing very clear: Panchayat is no longer a comedy.

Written by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, the first season —

about MBA aspirant Abhishek Tripathi who takes up the post of secretary in a village panchayat — was refreshingly light.

“Tripathi’s nervousness can be linked to the wide-eyed confusion of IAS young

Agastya Sen in Upamanyu Chatterjee’s extremely clever 1988 novel, English, August,

and the grounded beginnings of the show’s protagonist are reminiscent of Shah Rukh Khan’s struggles in Swades,” I wrote then, during the pandemic.

“Yet Tripathi is deeply illiterate, much to Sen’s dismay, and far removed from worldly wisdom like Khan’s NASA-returned scientist.

However, the problem is that we all collectively now think that ‘Panchayat’ is a gift that keeps on giving.

A. The identification factor attracts repeat loyalists from the original film’s enthusiasts.

B. The chemistry between lead stars could be even wackier on the second try.

C. The filmmaker already has the blueprint for success.

Priyadarshan’s ‘Hera Pheri’ laid a milestone in rustic urban comedy of middle-class.

Director Neeraj Vora aimed to surpass the original film.

So does ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ cash in on the success of its predecessor ‘Hera Pheri’?

Yes and No. With the obvious free lunch coming in with the sequel, there is always the fear of the zesty Turkey lacking the home-cooked seasoned taste.

‘Phir Hera Pheri’ is nevertheless a brave attempt in terms of story, dialogues and direction.

The first half is brilliant and chances are that if you don’t hold on to your seat tight enough, you might just fall of your seat!

After the interval though, the bubble is bust and the comparison between the original and the sequel run subconsciously and markedly in your head.

There are too many sub-plots that confuse you and too many characters of the similar dimension or scope, of the same flock that slacken the pace and the plot of the film, not to mention giving only a non-contrasting and blur canvas to the primary characters to display their character strengths.

The climax is too long and after a point it starts to annoy you. If you have kids under 10, this is surely a circus time for them with the bonus King Kong attraction.

Women in this film are treated even less than glorified extras and the songs are a good time for a quick dash to the washroom.

Why watch Phir Hera Pheri?

Rib-tickling dialogues, visionary direction, master comic deliverance by Paresh Rawal and the champion of comic expression, body language and comic timing Akshay Kumar.

Sunil Shetty also does justice to his role.

One actor from the original film whose absence clearly hurts is Om Puri.

But by all means, this is a film you don’t want to miss, and in a nutshell, is total Paisa Vasool!
